The Robot Vacuum Maintenance Schedule
Almost every robot vacuum fault reported by owners is a maintenance problem wearing a fault's clothing. Empty the bin after every run, dry the filter properly, cut hair off the side brushes weekly, and wipe the sensors fortnightly. Battery care
Lithium packs in robot vacuums are consumed by charge cycles rather than by time on the dock. Leaving the robot docked between runs is correct and is what the charging circuit is designed for. What shortens life is deep discharge followed by weeks of storage — if the robot is going unused for a month, charge it to roughly half and switch it off at the side rather than leaving it flat.

Weekly in an average home, and after every second run in a home with a shedding pet. Tap the dust out or rinse it, then let it dry completely — twelve hours or more. Refitting a damp filter restricts airflow and is a common reason people conclude their robot has lost suction.
How long does a robot vacuum battery last?
Two to three years of daily use is typical before capacity drops noticeably. Charge cycles, not calendar age, do the damage. Leaving the robot docked between runs is fine and is what the charging circuit expects; storing it fully discharged for weeks is what shortens its life.
Why has my robot vacuum lost suction?
In order: a full dustbin, a damp or clogged filter, a blocked intake, or hair wound into the wheel axles adding drag. All four are user-serviceable in a few minutes. Genuine motor failure is rare and usually announces itself with a change in pitch.
Do the sensors on a robot vacuum need cleaning?
Yes, and neglecting them causes the strangest symptoms. Filmed-over cliff sensors make a robot hesitate, reverse for no reason or refuse to leave the dock. A dry microfibre cloth across the sensor windows every couple of weeks prevents all of it.
